Shakes and Shingles should be fastened to the sheathing or substrate using corrosion-resistant, hot-dipped, zinc-coated nails or aluminum or stainless steel nails or corrosion resistant staples stainless steel staples when approved by the local building official.
Fasteners should be driven flush to secure materials without crushing the surface, of the Shake or Shingle. Fasteners should be placed or positioned approximately ¾" to 1" from the edges of the Shakes/Shingles and 1½" to 2" from the butt line of the following course. Fasteners need to be long enough to penetrate through the Shakes/Shingles into the sheathing or sub-strate a minimum of ¾" or through the thickness of the sheathing or sub-strate.
